Job Description

Durban University of Technology (DUT) is located on the warm east coast of South Africa in the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). It sprawls over seven (7) campuses that cater for about 32 000 students. Two of these are located in spectacular KZN Midlands, well-known for its undulating hills, which unfurl coastwards from the Drakensburg Mountains nearby. Five of these are located in tropical and picturesque Durban, which sits ensconced beside the ‘Valley of a Thousand Hills’ as it tapers off into the Indian ocean.

The Campus Director will actively support the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (People and Operations) in the leadership and management of the multiple campuses of the University. The Campus Director is accountable for the day-to-day management and administration of all the Midlands (PMB) campuses and must ensure that processes, policies, systems, rules and procedures of the university are consistently applied. The Campus Director reports to the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (People and Operations) and provides support in the leadership and management of the multiple campuses of the university. This position will be based at the Midlands /Pietermaritzburg campus.

Requirements

• PhD (NQF Level 10) or equivalent qualification.
• 10 years’ relevant experience of which 5 years must have been in senior leadership position with a track record of managing a complex multidisciplinary operation, preferably in a Higher Education Environment.
• Academic/research experience and functions relating to teaching and learning is required; student academic administration; student life and welfare, including functions on infrastructure maintenance.

• Business acumen, financial literacy, and resource management expertise.
• Excellent communication and people management skills.
• Proficiency in SAP and other technological advancements relevant to university operations.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and resilience skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and execute campus-level strategies aligned with DUT’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
• Communicate policies effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify and address risks within the campuses in collaboration with relevant departments.
• Oversee the provision of campus services, including academic programmes, student support, and administration.
• Ensure compliance with service level agreements by service providers and subcontractors.
• Foster a positive workplace culture and team support to enhance service delivery.
• Manage human resources, including staffing and professional development.
• Develop budgets and oversee the management of internal and external resources.
• Represent DUT in various internal and external forums as required.
