Job Description:

The Vessel Traffic Control Assistant is responsible for sourcing, extracting, and documenting accurate and current port control-related information. They will analyze and capture relevant data, gather and disseminate information, and provide administrative support for the VTS Office. They will also be responsible for answering and screening telephone calls, processing attachment orders, and coordinating emergency call-outs. Additionally, they will analyze shipping information and documents for ISPS compliance and arrange the supply of fresh water to vessels after normal working hours.

Requirements:

– High School (Grade 12) education with Maths & Science
– Computer literacy
– 6 to 12 months of experience
– Knowledge of the ISPS Code and Marine Operations

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Analyze and capture relevant data such as arrival/departure times and shifting movements
• Gather and disseminate relevant information to the port community and marine services role players
• Answer and screen telephone calls from port users, providing information on ETA’s, ETD’s, Shifting’s, Berths, etc.
• Process attachment orders
• Provide administrative support for the VTS Office
• Keep records of all shipping-related information
• Coordinate emergency call-outs under the instruction of SVTC
• Provide telephonic assistance in Marine Resource requirements
• Analyze and update shipping information and reports
• Analyze shipping documents for ISPS compliance
• Arrange the supply of fresh water to vessels after normal working hours
