Job Description:

RCL Foods is recruiting for a driven, highly energized and people orientated Sales Representative – Cash Sales within the baking business unit. The suitable candidate will be required to keep contact with all key customers in the area, manage client retention, and deliver new business to the Company. This role will be based in Kokstad and reporting to the Depot Manager.


• Education: NQF level 4/5/6, matric and preferably a diploma or other in marketing
• Experience: 2-3 years experience working in FMCG sales environment. Experience in selling FMCG product for cash to customers. Valid Drivers Licence (unendorsed) essential
• General: May be required to work over weekends and public holidays. Expected to work overtime as required

• Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Maintain Sales to Existing Cash Customers
– Maintain routine contact with existing customer personnel
– Expand sales volumes to existing customers
– Monitor and analyse sales of existing customers; follow up existing customers who have stopped buying

• Sales to New Customers and Markets
– Conduct regular route evaluations as per an agreed plan per quarter
– Prospect for leads for potential new customers
– Conduct site visits to potential new customers
– Prepare and present price quotations and sample product
– Present sales pitch to potential customers
– Conduct follow up calls
– Close the sale and obtain sales orders liaise with relevant Driver Supervisor regarding addition of new customer to route and delivery
– Monitor sales of new customer and continue follow ups

• Sales Administration
– Maintain the Customer Database
– Compile sales statistical reports & graphs (monthly report) (based on information supplied by Supervisor)
– Submit Customer Contact Reports including Lost & New Customers Monthly
– Sales documentation record keeping
– Monthly call cycle
– Conduct monthly Pricing Monitor

• Market Research
– Gather market information as required (see Market Information)
– Conduct planned Market Surveys
– Assist with analysing and evaluating market information
– Compile Market Information Reports and Graphs

• Market Information
– Product, Service and Competitor Analysis
– Identify competitors
– Collect competitor sales, price and product information
– Obtain competitor products
– Assess competitive performance
– Understand/monitor competitors’ strategies and dynamics
– Identify key success factors

• Promotional Activities
– Actively participate in idea generation of suitable promotional activities for Cash Customers through market intelligence feedback
– Work with Marketing in the development of such activities
– Implement promotional activities for cash customers as directed by working with Driver Supervisors
– Give feedback on the effectiveness of the promotions being carried out and assist with measurement thereof

• Forecast
– Estimate demand by customer/route (weekly, monthly)
– Analyse and monitor trends
– Identify one-time peaks/valleys
– Ensure effective feedback to Sales Manager on the forecast

• General
– Close the loop to marketing, planning, manufacturing, and logistics
– Process feedback, ideas and sales information
– Assist with management of crates whilst on the different routes, liaising with supervisors re. the location of Sunshine crates.
– Provide support to the Sales Office as and when required: phoning customers, capturing of orders into JDE, etc.
