Payroll Accountant : Mpact Operations

Job Description

  • The Incumbent will be required to apply accounting controls around the payroll processes for the Company’s payroll.
  • The Incumbent will also be required to provide support to the Payroll department, ensure the accuracy of preliminary and final payroll reports as well as compliance with Income Tax Law in complicated payroll and financial situations.

Duties and Responsibilities 

▪ Advise Payroll Services team of income tax implications;

▪ Drafting of opinions on income tax consequences of various ad hoc queries;

▪ Assist and advise with complex income tax and VAT issues;

▪ Interpretation of income tax legislation;

▪ Assist with the implementation of payroll transactions;

▪ Complying with risk management procedures;

▪ Daily payroll processing including reconciliations/review of salaries, wages and taxes;

▪ Preparation, review and filing of amended tax returns;

▪ Review all third-party payments and reconciliation to the general ledger allocation;

▪ Perform sample audits of all payroll input, and agree to current individual tax legislation;

▪ Prepare management reports for business units including provision reporting;

▪ Prepare payroll journals and general ledger entries;

▪ Assist with IRP 5 reconciliations;

▪ Importing of weekly and monthly payroll interface;

▪ Perform monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts;

▪ Review and testing of provisions; and

▪ Perform ad hoc duties as and when required.

Requirements

  • Matric Certificate with Maths and Accounting (Maths Literacy is not sufficient);
  •  Postgraduate qualification in Tax will be advantageous
  • Minimum five (5) years’ working experience in Payroll Tax and or Accounting will be advantageous;
  • Must be prepared to pursue additional tertiary studies in Payroll and Tax (Registered Tax Practitioner with SARS);
  • ducos, E@syfile, SARS Efiling and JDE System experience advantageous, and
  • Microsoft Office.
