Marketing Manager Companion Animals | MSD

The purpose of the role is to coordinate and implement a marketing strategy for the Companion Animal Product portfolio to achieve or exceed the agreed sales objectives within the limits of the allocated budgets. You will also be required to provide and coordinate marketing and commercial assistance to the sales and marketing efforts of the Veterinary and Over- The- Counter Sales Teams.

Our Animal Health Marketing team takes a customer centric perspective using customer feedback and market intelligence data. Using this data, we design, develop and deploy products, platforms, brands and marketing initiatives that ensure we can improve the health and well-being of animals everywhere.


• Manage the product portfolio, monitoring stock and forecast.
• As part of the national pharmacovigilance team, the Marketing Manager will be actively involved in supporting the pharmacovigilance team. Duties will include, but not be limited to: liaising with customers and obtaining follow up information for adverse events and product quality complaints, assisting with follow through on case resolution and feedback, following prescribed pharmacovigilance procedures for monitoring and reporting adverse events on company sponsored social media sites and websites for the applicable business unit as well as attendance and participation in Business Unit Pharmacovigilance meetings.
• Provide marketing and sales support to sales staff and clients.
• Assist with the registration of new products and coordinate new product launches.
• Attend regional and national sales conferences and provide training to staff and clients on company products as part of ongoing continuing education policy.
• Achieve sales as per target set.
• Briefing and liaising with advertising companies to oversee implementation of campaigns that form part of the digital marketing strategy as well as traditional marketing strategy/ies.
• Briefing and liaising with printing companies.
• Assist in planning and executing Product Launches, Sales Conferences and assist with Exhibitions etc. (all departments).
• Co-ordination of promotional campaigns for the product as well as with the Product Specialist for the rest of the portfolio.
• Co-ordinate events and touch points with pet owners – Shows, Events, etc.
• Remain within promotional budget.
• Monitor and remain within operational expense budget
• Oversee managing of products in portfolio designated to Product specialist, Companion Animals monitoring stock and monthly forecast.
• Manage Technical Specialist Veterinarian to ensure technical marketing tools and information remains current.
• Together with the Business Unit manager assume responsibility for community management on social platforms where community management is required.
• Administration of the product Loyalty and Rewards programme including with relationship management with the application developers to ensure this program runs smoothly and any updates needed are scoped and implemented.
• Manage the marketing assistant to ensure that sales team is properly supported in receiving all tools and needs timeously as well as that all administrative processes and duties are being performed for both Companion Animals as well as Intensive Livestock which this position also supports.


• BVSc or similar veterinary degree or a marketing degree


• 5 years’ experience in Product Management/Marketing Management/Marketing related field
• Experience in sales and/or marketing in the veterinary field, especially Companion Animals, would be advantageous

Computer literacy

• The incumbent must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel and knowledge of SAP and a design program would be beneficial

Organisational skills

• The incumbent must be mature and able to co-ordinate the activities of teams of people in a productive and assertive way.
