Maintenance Manager | AJ Personnel

Job Summary:

• Responsible for decisions relating to maintenance department delivery targets, carrying out and overseeing the maintenance processes, and coordinating all departmental activities
• Planning and drawing up machine maintenance schedules, managing workforce, and resources

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Breakdown maintenance

• Ensure all breakdown maintenance tasks are attended to as a priority
• Troubleshoot and repair machinery to ensure it works properly and is safe for use
• Review and approve all installation and repair activities completed by the maintenance team members
• Ensure that all electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems (where applicable) are repaired and/or serviced and/or replaced in accordance with both the Company and/or equipment manufacturer specifications (where applicable and/or available)
• In the absence of specifications, review and approve repairs and/or servicing and/or replacement of components identified by maintenance team members before any work is undertaken
• Review and approve any discrepancies between the specifications and or replacement components identified by maintenance team members before further repairs and/or servicing and/or component replacement takes place

Scheduled maintenance

• Ensure operational efficiency of electrical equipment, and mechanical and hydraulic systems through timely inspection and repair
• Ensure all scheduled maintenance is carried out in accordance with the Company ISO Maintenance Schedule
• Where scheduled maintenance cannot be carried out due to operational requirements and/or restraints, the applicable maintenance should be rescheduled for a new date, as close to the original date as possible
• Ensure good practices, as defined by the Company and/or equipment manufacturer specifications (where applicable and/or available), are adhered to at all times

Operational responsibilities
Manage and supervise the maintenance operations and processes by:
Workforce Utilization

• Communicate goals and key performance indicators to direct reports
• Provide guidance to direct reports
• Ensure clarity around priorities and goals for the entire functional area
• Ensure that direct reports understand their roles and responsibilities
• Ensure that daily, weekly, and monthly tasks are allocated and delegated
• Communicate changes from senior leaders
• Communicate mission, vision, and values

Employee Management

• Recruitment and selection
• Monitor employee absences, and address and resolve patterns and abuse
• Counselling, disciplinary action, grievances, and conflict resolution

Employee Training

• Identify knowledge gaps and arrange training
• Guide the talent identification and development processes for a group or function
• Provide ongoing training, coaching, and mentoring
• Orientation and training of new employees
• Plan the career development of individual members of staff

Resources Management

• Ensure all equipment and machines are maintained and serviced to specification
• Plan and order material in accordance with requirements
• Ensure adequate stock levels where applicable

Development and Improvement of Processes and Procedures

• Ensure that processes and procedures are developed and effectively implemented to help the department meet its operational and strategic goals
• Identify gaps in processes and implement improvement measures Ensure acceptable quality standards for all processes and procedures from all team members


• Provide feedback reports to various senior management representatives as required

Health and Safety

• Implement and promote safe working standards
• Promote and maintain awareness and compliance with health and safety in accordance with the Company policy
• Ensure the Company’s health and safety policies are adhered to at all times
• Ensure a clean, safe, and healthy working environment is maintained
• Think, plan and do the right thing, all the time, every time

Quality Standards

• Ensure that ISO requirements are met and maintained
• Comply with Company and clients’ quality standards
• Promote and uphold Company performance standards and ideology
• Ensure on-time delivery and good quality products
• Endeavor to promote continuous improvement
• Practice good housekeeping and ensure that the premises and facilities are kept in a clean and hygienic condition

Minimum requirements

Matric or N4

Qualified Fitter & Turner and/or Millwright and/or Diesel Mechanic

Previous experience in a managerial role is essential
• Previous exposure to a similar environment would be advantageous
• Strong technical/operational background
• Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
