The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research a leading scientific and technology research organisation that researches, develops, localises and diffuses technologies to accelerate socio-economic prosperity in South Africa.

The CSIR is inviting all suitable candidates to apply for an internship opportunity, there are a total of two positions available in Johannesburg South Africa, applications are accepted from all provinces however candidates must be willing to relocate to the offices in Johannesburg.

Successful applications will have the responsibility of supporting Mandela Mining in administration duties, research as well as carrying out tasks related to project delivery and implementation. Interns in the programme will be placed in several industries and they are as follows:

Interns in this role will have to participate in a multitude of activities including, but not limited to:

Depending on which field you are enrolled in you will be carrying out thorough literature reviews of previous research done locally and internationally in the mining, goescience or information communication technologies(ICT) fields as well as
conducting studies on previously identified mining engineering technologies at various mine sites.

Chosen candidates will be spending time engaging with suppliers and manufacturers of the original equipment and or real time information management system technologies that have been identified or are currently being used at various mine sites.
Candidates will be responsible for generating detailed reports on processes and results at specified mine sites once reports are generated they must be presented to the assigned CSIR team leaders.
Candidates are required to perform administration tasks when requested by team leaders.

To qualify for the internship programme you will need to posses:

A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering for the Mining Engineering Internship or a Bachelor degree in Computer Science for the ICT Internship, these qualifications must be issued by an accredited South African tertiary education institution. Additionally you must be good with numbers, have the ability to pay close attention to details. Experience in a Mechanised or Metalliferous mining environment will be advantageous. Candidates with a post graduate degree are also welcome to apply.
